Volcanoes and Rainy Days

The Volcano near Guatemala city erupted 2 days ago, causing school to be canceled yesterday. There has also been a lot of rain here, and when mixed with the ash from the Volcano, it can be slippery when you walk. What a crazy week this has been, 1st a small earthquake, then a volcano erupting, as well as rain everyday. Thankfully the Volcano eruption did not affect San Lucas (the town where I am) too much, except for volcano ash spread throughout the town.

Other than the bizarre weather conditions, all has been well! I've been able to work at the school, helping with the classes, and Jodi asked me yesterday to put together some human video's for the kids and youth here as well. Pray for ideas! :)

To Ken and Lorette: I will be letting you know today what you can bring down here, if there's anything more specific Jodi and Julio are asking for!

Also skype works down here, and I was able to talk with Amanda yesterday!

Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone! Love and miss you!

Earthquake today?

I think I felt a small earthquake and tremor here today! It was crazy being in the mission and feeling everything shake for a second. It was very short tho, and everything was fine!

Other than that, my day was great! I stayed at the Rodriguez house in the morning and watched Lamar who stayed home sick from school. Then he started feeling better and we went to Getsemeni, for the last period for their school of art. There I helped Hillary with the dance class. Later on we all went to Antigua for dinner at the most beautiful McDonalds I've ever been to! I discovered "McPapatas" which are like steak fries, rrrreally good! Antigua is so quaint and beautiful. The cobblestone roads and old buildings feel like your walking around in the 1800's, its very historic, almost like being Spain or somewhere in Europe. Deborah had her Ballet lessons in Antigua as well, I got to watch her and she is incredible :)

It was a sweet (yet another rainy) day in Guatemala. Feeling blessed to be here.

Also I would suggest bringing
*warm clothes (jeans, jackets with hoods etc, it's their rainy season)
*good walking shoes
*an umbrella
*Re-fillable water bottle
that's all I can think of, I'll keep you updated with more!

primero dia!

1st day at Getsemeni School today! It was wonderful!

I'm staying with a wonderful girl Hillary (also from PA) who's down here teaching english, and dance to the students, so I just followed her around the school today.
Each period we went to a new class and had tons of fun teaching songs to little kids in english, helping the english teacher with the high school classes and watching 4th graders dominate in soccer (futbol). Even the 4th graders have soccer in their blood. :) They are better than I'll ever be.

Then Hillary and I played Tennis in the rain with Lamar and Rogelio after school in front of the mission house.

I'm having a blast!

beginning adventures

I made it safely! Praise the Lord! Seriously though, its a miracle after landing at my layover in Houston at 6:50, getting off the plane at 6:56 and running to my gate for my Guatemala bound flight leaving at 7:05! Not sure how I managed to get on it, but I did. I'm sure partly because I was running like a wild woman through the airport!

Getting off the plane my first thoughts were, "OH MY, what am I even doing?!" For the first time Im traveling to another country by MYSELF! It was a scary moment, but then peace washed over me, and I just felt God being right with me. I'm so thrilled to be here!
I then waited outside the airport for a bit where Julio and Issac picked me up! They were asking about who's all coming down again!
Issac asked, "Is that guy with the big calfs coming down this time??" aka Jeremiah! and then "What about the girl who called me honey all the time" in reference to Julia. They are def excited to see the team, as am I.

Let's see, the weather was rainy tonight, jeans and a jacket weather for the night time.

with that it's 11:30 here and I'm off to bed! Love you guys!!

Guatemala bound!

Wow, I can't believe that I'm the first to head down to Guatemala! How exciting! At first I got on the wrong flight, but it's all figured out now and I'm sitting in LAX airport waiting for my plane :)

For those of you who don't know, I'll be down there for a month serving Jodi and Julio at the Getsemeni school, and a missions team from Tri-County Worship Center will be joining me for the last 2 weeks. Keep us in your prayers!!

So, whenever I can connect to the internet I'll post updates about what's happening! So excited to see everyone coming down! It looks like it may be a rainy-ish week down there, but I'll let you know.

love and joy
